Create a large piece of art from small squares of images.
Requirements:
Project size should be no smaller that 22x22.
You will have to use a piece of railroad board for this or buy a large piece of sturdy mat board.
Directions:
- Find or create your own image and project form an overhead projector to get it the size you want. First use a pencil and then go over your lines with sharpie.
- You will seriously need many one by one inch squares for this project of all different value tones. Start collecting early from your own stash or ask fellow classmates to save their rejected prints for you. This would be a good project for you to select early in the semester so you have time to gather the prints.
- Carefully cut the prints into one by one inch squares.
Assembly:
- Lay tracing paper or newsprint over your large project and trace. You will need this pattern in the end to accurately draw in any defining lines. Then, begin attaching the value squares using rubber cement. Start from the top and work your way down and over. When you come to a curved line or change in value, place the 1x1 inch piece where you intend to use it. Using a pencil, draw the line and cut the piece to fit the area.
- When all the 1x1 pieces are in place, go back into the project with a black sharpie to define and enhance any crucial lines.
**This project is ALL about careful craftsmanship
